The report contained observations and recommendations of the Committee appointed by the Prime Minister to investigate the cause for constant fire occurring in Khajeemawatta has been handed over to the Hon. Prime Minister’s office on the 10th, yesterday.
The Co-chairmen of the Committee, Mr. Pradeep Undugoda, Chairman of District Co-ordinating Committee and the District Secretary of Colombo, Mr. Pradeep Yasaratna were participated in this event.
In Khajeemawatta, Mutwal with a short period of 1 ½ years three incidents of fire eruption being reported and a large number of families have been displaced due to the fire.
The Prime Minister, having raised the concern over this matter at the district co-ordinating committee, Colombo has appointed a committee to look in to the cause of constant fire around these houses and the settlers of such houses as well. The Chairman of the Colombo district Co-ordinating committee Major. Pradeep Undugoda and the District secretary, Colombo Mr. Pradeep Yasarathna have taken part as the Co-chairmen of this committee and the Colombo Municipal Commissioner, Government Analyst, OICs of Police divisions in the district, Divisional secretary, Colombo Grama Niladhari, Disaster Management Center, Urban Development Authority, housing Development Authority including officers in such Institutions and all relevant parties have been appointed as members of such committee.
The Committee met in the previous week has inquired in to the facts concerning the ownership of houses, occupancy, the ways the settlers got arrived there future actions to be taken in this regard as causes for previous occurrences of fire and the final report inclusive with observations and recommendations prepared accordingly has been handed over to the Hon. Prime Minister in this manner.
